This Historical Replica of a Bead and Pearl Lariat necklace is from a portrait of Isabella of Portugal, Duchess of Burgundy from approximately the 1450's, making it one of the earliest historical reproductions I've created.

I created this "Y" shaped necklace, called a Lariat necklace, using 4mm high quality Jet Black glass beads and in between each bead is a tiny gold colored glass seed bead. Finally, seperating groups of 5 black beads are larger 8mm round glass pearls in a light blush pink color. The necklace measures approximately 25 inch in length and the part that dangles down is about 5.5 inches. Features a lobster claw clasp and an extender chain.

Isabella of Portugal (1397-1471) was the only child of John I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster to survive into adulthood and survive she did as she lived to be an amazing 74 years old, quite the feat in that period of history. She became the Duchess of Burgundy as the result of her third marriage to Duke Philip the Good. She was cousin to Henry V of England from whom she recieved an offer of marriage however negotiations for the marriage failed. Isabella was known to be an intelligent woman who exerted a great deal of influence over both her husband and later her son. She was a patron of the arts and something of a matchmaker for the members court.
