You're looking at a lovely historical replica of a necklace worn by Joanna of Castile in of her most popular portraits. Joanna of Castile was the third child of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon. Her sister, Catherine of Aragon was the first and longest wife of King Henry VIII. Joanna's life was no fairy tale. She was Queen of Castile but after the death of her husband, Joanna was deemed mentally ill, hence her nickname Juana la Loca. She spent the rest of her life in a nunnery though she remained Queen in name until 1517 when her son Charles became King and Joanna became co-monarch.
The necklace is a large ruby red glass jewel set in an antiqued gold toned setting strung on a silky smooth black cord that has an antiqued gold toned lobster claw clasp. The necklace has a nice weight to it without being too heavy or bulky.
To ensure that you are able to wear this pendant the moment you receive it, I have attached it to a length of black cord, measuring about 20 inches. Though of course this cord can be removed should you choose to use a chain to display the pendant instead.
