Queen Catherine Howard was the 5th wife of Henry VIII. He affectionately referred to her as his "Rose without a Thorn" but she pricked him and broke his heart nonetheless. After less than 2 years of marriage, Catherine Howard was beheaded for treason, in this case for committing adultery while married to the king. Though her exact age is unknown, scholars agree that she was under the age of 20 at the time of her death.
This necklace set is a replica of a necklaces Catherine worn in her portrait painted by Han Holbein the Younger.
These necklaces were created using gold toned filigrees which have been connected to one another with sets of hand wired, high quality glass pearls. Each of the round filigrees (28 in all) is beset with a faceted glass red jewel which itself has been set in a gold toned setting. The center piece is a large filigree to which an Emerald green glass jewel had been hand wired wrapped to the filigree and from which a white teardrop shaped glass pearl elegantly dangles. Above the green glass jewel is red glass jewel. This set is made up of two necklaces so you can recreate Catherine Howard's entire look from this portrait.
The shorter necklace measures about 18 inches and has a lobster claw clasp.
The longer necklace measures about 31 inches and is a continuous necklace meant to slip on over the head.
