Queen Catherine (Katheryn) Howard was the 5th wife of Henry VIII. He affectionately referred to her as his "Rose without a Thorn" but she pricked him and broke his heart nonetheless. After less than 2 years of marriage, Catherine Howard was beheaded for treason, in this case for committing adultery while married to the king. Though her exact age is unknown, scholars agree that she was under the age of 20 at the time of her death.
This necklace is a replica of a necklace worn by the sitter in Portrait of a Young Woman, ca. 1540–45, attributed to the workshop of Hans Holbein the Younger. While evidence is inconclusive, it has been suggested that the woman in the portrait is the young Queen.
This necklace features a raw brass round filigree treated with Renaissance wax to stave off oxidation. This 2 inch filigree is set with 7 black acrylic jewels of various sizes and shapes. Each jewel is set in a bezel setting. From this filigree dangle 3 round glass pearls each topped with an antiqued gold colored bead cap. Finally, the chain is handmade chainmail where I combine 2 different colors of metal (gold and antiqued brass) in a simple chainmail weave to create a more unique "authentically historical" look. As with all of the chainmail in my work, I do not buy it premade, but instead take the time to hand weave it myself.

Buyer must contact me within 14 days of delivery and ship items back within 30 days of delivery. Custom items cannot be returned.
